There are some spots of 90s progressivism, like Daphne being the most successful of the group, or her being interviewed by fake Oprah. I love all animation, but appreciated being brought back to an era of vivid background paintings and late-90s attitude. Animation in this era had more physical paintings in it than today's cartoons. Instead of banking on pre-1998 nostalgia, I got 1998 nostalgia. Its modern comparison would be 2014's "Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery", which clearly banks on nostalgia from an aging Scooby-Doo fanbase to join up with the WWE. ![]() This is a direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movie from 1998. The next 70 are about proving it doesn't suck, while keeping the classic elements of Scooby-Doo alive.įor no reason, everyone involved in this movie tried. Maybe it doesn't suck, but the first 10 minutes of this movie are about how Scooby-Doo fucking sucks. I have never intentionally watched an episode of Scooby-Doo. It's a hustle, a masterwork, a magic trick, a PhD thesis. "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" drags a washed-up franchise into modern times, with impossible precision.
